We have at long last released beta 1 of the RedLine jQuery racing game. Making use of gameQuery, jQuery and a lot of custom code and images its a side scrolling race game made without any use of flash at all!

Please feel free to play it, leave suggestions, report bugs and show us your top scores!

information RedLine Game Out!Please note, the game was designed using Firefox and runs best with the fastest javascript engine you have available. Firefox 3.1 offers the best performance we have seen.

    Interesting.

I noticed that there is a small delay before the music loops, which ruins the rhythm. Is it the result of using only JavaScript for playing sound?

    Hey,
I’m not convinced its not a delay in the loop itself; but ye one of the most taxing parts was getting cross-browser sound working without showing any media players — we’ll try check today if its the loop at least

    Thanks
    Dave

I noticed that at higher speeds the crash explosion happens way after the actual collision. So I would agree that the full game loop might need to be analyzed. My suspicion is that if you’re using jQuery’s DOM filtering to get sprite nodes etc. that you’re spending too much time searching for nodes.

Ye we’ve had trouble with various browsers and performance; hopefully firefox 3.1 (with the much faster JS engine) will also help.
