Kind Words on RedLine

November 27th, 2008 by dave. No Comments »

AJAX Magazine (of phpmagazine.net) was kind enough to have a look at our RedLine Javascript release and had this to say –

Vertigo-projects have a new and amazing racing game powered by jQuery and using the GameQuery plugin. The game itself is about one thousand lines of code, but you will need some practice to not shift too early or to avoid crashing. It’s interesting to see the level of applications that we can build today using modern javascript libraries such as jQuery. The design is pretty attractive to run a level or two, have a look and enjoy the race http://www.vertigo-project.com/projects/redline-game.

You can read the article here.

The RedLine Racing Game is busy making a transition to being on Facebook as well! We’ve always wanted to develop something big for facebook (not this) but never got stuck into the API; so we’ll be working on our next project soon after this!

We will keep you posted once it goes live (this week), in the meantime you can enjoy it here on the site!

Making Progress

November 21st, 2008 by dave. 1 Comment »

We’ve been making solid progress on the first of the RedLine javascript (jQuery) games, and I’ve included some updated screenshots below. The game is essentially working 100% now and comprises of the following basic strategy:

  • You race along a track for a given number of seconds, trying to avoid crashing with enemies.
  • You can pickup items, or hit dirt or speeds to change the movement speed.
  • Score is calculated by the speed at which you react to gear changes, the speed you traveled at, the dirt you missed, etc etc.
  • There are 10 levels, which have increased speed; enemies; petrol requirements and more.

Right now the only trick is finding a way to verify that the javascript game has submitted the score, and not a nefarious user…

RedLine Public Demo 1

November 19th, 2008 by dave. No Comments »

We’ve been toiling away with sound fixes for gameQuery, problems with slow javascript implementations and more, but are getting close to releasing the first public demo for one of the racing games in RedLine. Its a side scrolling racer, where you have to dodge enemies, collect petrol and miss the dirts/hit the speedups to get a high score – arcade classic style.

There’s still much to be done, but we will be posting it and the source code here on Vertigo Project once its ready!

gameQuery

November 12th, 2008 by dave. 1 Comment »

logo gameQuerySomething we’ve been playing around with for RedLine is gameQuery, a jQuery plugin for javascript game development.

gameQuery is a jQuery plug-in to help make javascript games easier to develop by adding some simple mechanism and commodity. It’s still in a very early stage of development may change a lot in the version to come. The project has now also a Google Code page where the svn repository of the project will soon be hosted.

We’ll hopefully have a demo or two up with some of the stuff you can do with it soon, but in the meantime feel free to check out the site if you enjoy the odd bit of javascript madness.

More RedLine Tech

As you might have read Daz put up a feature presentation of using jQuery to do animation (e.g. a racing game) in a previous post. While RedLine’s still have a long way to go, there is another preview using parallax for a 3d background effect.

Have a look at the howto on his blog, or a quick look below (hold your right arrow)

October 27th, 2008 by dave. No Comments »

Work has begun on playing around with JavaScript to write some racing games for Red Line – and Darryl has posted a code test on his blog where you can see some of the things that can be done with jQuery.

Check it out below by clicking in the image and then pressing the up arrow, or go straight to his site.
